I remember feeling disappointed when I discovered that HS2 was going to be built from London to Birmingham first. Not that Birmingham does not deserve more than its spindly two tracks southeast, which it probably does. It is more that The North has poor train lines, and surely you would get more bang-for-the-UK buck if ...
